INTRO TO BOOK CONCEPT
Whaledreamers, a feature length documentary released next year in cinemas around the world is a story about Humanities need to reconnect with the natural world. How the film maker Kim Kindersley, an english documentary film maker comes to meet a southern australian whale tribe, the Mirning, is at the core of the this story.
We are proposing two books. One is the straight forward book of the film called Whaledreamers. It follows the same story as in the film. How the film maker became involved with the Mirning and the journey that they go on together. The core of the book as in the film is centered around the Gathering that took place on the Nullarbor in 1998 with 85 indigenous elders from all over the world. It was a unique and important event that up till now has not been shared with the world. The book charts the journey of the film with incredible still images that were taken throughout the filming process. Many of these are never before seen images of ceremonies performed by the different tribes from around the globe.
One extraordinary story revolves around the meeting between Julian Lennon the producer of the film and the Mirning tribe. In 1998 Julian was introduced to the Mirning grandmothers. They gave him a sacred white male swan feather at this meeting. Two years ago Cynthia Lennon published a book called John...in it she quoted John Lennon saying the following words to his son Julian 'If anything ever happens to me, look for a white feather and you'll know I'm looking after you".
With the impending global release of movie....the extraordinary still images and the indigenous wisdom that has never been more relevant for humanity than now..... we feel that there is a genuine need and market for the book of the film Whaledreamers please see main web site on www.whaledreamers.com
The second book of the series concerns all the research that Kim Kindersley did before and during the meetings with the Mirning tribe. It is an extraordinary tale of magic and our connection both ancient and modern to the cetaceans. In many ways the behind the scenes story to the film is more potent that then film itself. what follows is some background notes written during the research period of film. Again this is complemented by 1,000's of stills from around the globe. All of this is being done with full ongoing collaboration with the tribes and elders involved. Elders such as Arvol Lookinghorse the 19th keeper of the white Buffalo Woman's peace pipe.
Again with the huge concerns over global warming and the future of humanity seemingly hanging in the balance there has never been a more relevant time for a book about how this indigenous wisdom can be integrated into mainstream world.
